In 1984 you could buy a movie ticket for $2.50 and a gallon of gas for $1.10. The average income was $21,600, and the average monthly rent was $350. I currently pay $640 per month for a one bedroom apartment, $8-$10 for a movie ticket, approximately $3.30 for a gallon of gas, and I am mocked in my family for making $30,000 a year. I was also not alive in 1984. Time’s change, and so should taxes if we expect our education system to keep up with a growing population.
